One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish
One of my strongest childhood memories is of Dr. Seuss’
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. I can
recall being introduced to the magical world in which
one can box with a Gox, sing with a Ying or sleep with
a pet Zeep. The fanciful, exotic creatures that filled
the book were unlike any I had seen before.
Dr. Seuss encourages us to discover that “everyday,
from here to there, funny things are everywhere,”
not just in the amazing worlds he created in his books,
but in ours as well. Dr. Seuss helps us look at the
lighter, funnier side of situations instead of always
looking at the serious side. You might miss something
wonderful if you don’t open your eyes and look
closely at that which surrounds you.
Dr. Seuss has spanned the generations from my childhood
bookshelf to that of my 7-year-old son, Tom. In fact,
the book has been so important to us that we are registered
to get the first Zans bred in the United States. The
breeder says it may take some time.
