I have always loved the works of Dr. Seuss. I also have always loved the circus. So when I was little and I discovered this book, I felt as though it was written specifically with me in mind. Dr. Seuss books often had that quality for me. Like the time I read the story about the lady that named all of her forty children David, I felt honored.

When I read If I Ran the Circus for the first time my imagination started to swirl. I had never imagined a circus like the Circus McGurkus. How stupendous it was! How tremendous! I couldn't believe the circus young Morris McGurk came up with in his head. How did he do it? And then it hit me. If he could imagine all this, why can't I? So I did. And I still do. That to me is what Dr. Seuss represents–the beauty of the imagination.
