How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Dr. Seuss’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas imparts
upon us the classic holiday message that the Christmas
spirit really is about celebrating the love of family
and friends. While the Grinch thinks Christmas traditionally
brings the joy of opening presents, sitting down to
Christmas dinner and decorating trees, the Whos in Whoville
demonstrate that one can celebrate the spirit of giving
and sharing without these material aspects of the holiday.
After the Grinch takes away everything he thinks symbolizes
Christmas, the Whos astonish him by rejoicing with as
much enthusiasm as ever and even welcome him to the
celebration.
As this lesson is learned by the Grinch, another important
one is revealed that has made this book my favorite
Dr. Seuss story. As the Grinch comes to realize that
Christmas “doesn’t come from a store,”
but rather from a more meaningful place within oneself,
his heart grows and embraces the true spirit of Christmas.
Dr. Seuss lets all of his readers know that it is possible
for everyone to change if they are willing to open their
minds and hearts to discover new things. Opening my
heart to the books of Dr. Seuss has allowed new discovery
for me throughout life as a child, adult and parent.
